God Lived With Them Life Stories of Sixteen Monastic Disciples of Sri Ramakrishna Swami Chetanananda 9780916356798 Books Reviews

  • This is an incredible book, authored by Swami Chetanananda ji. I drank every single word of it!

It was so amazing, mesmerizing, and enchanting that I almost felt like going into ecstasy as I was reading.

In fact, the situation got so bad that I couldn't read the book AT ALL beyond Latu Mj's life (Swami Adbhutananda).

It was wonderful, amazing, spine-tickling, sensational .. I'm running out of adjectives here.

I cannot imagine a better book on this subject.

    Extremely highly recommended!

Hari Om Tat Sat. God bless.
  • This is a very goody book written by disciples of Ramakrishna. Very enlightening.
  • Beautiful, beautiful account of Sri Ramakrishna! Inspiring for all seekers of any Spiritual path. One will get a thorough glimpse of the Incarnation of Sri Ramakrishna and how he inspired those around him. I own every book by this author and he is extremely prolific and one of the best spiritual writers I have ever come across. The claims by another reviewer are bogus and have nothing to do with the contents of this book. If you want to be inspired, I highly recommend this book.
  • I found this book to be a very inspiring account of Ramakrishna's close disciples. It is well researched and well written. But more than that, it is written with a deep love for these disciples. You can tell that the author truly finds inspiration and wisdom from these 16 disciples of Ramakrishna. For those who are find that reading the lives of devotees of God helps them on the path, well you couldn't do better than this.
  • This is my second copy of this incredible book. The first I lent to somebody and never got back. It has stories that will inspire you to follow the spiritual life, whatever path you follow. Sri Ramakrishna was a guiding light for humanity in his own time and in our modern world.
  • The life stories of these disciples of Sri Ramakrishna give a profound insight in the loving relationship between the Master and the young men who came to him for spiritual guidance. Especially the notion of "guru" or spiritual teacher can be experienced as a compassionate and wise guidance on a path that many Western seekers long to find. All the characters are described with wit and humour and so the author finds a way to touch the heart of the reader.

This review is from They Lived With God Life Stories Of Some Devotees of Sri Ramakrishna (Hardcover)
Swami Chetananda, in his book, refers to Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri Devi as a lay disciple, and I quote; "They Lived With God brings to life the biographies of Ramakrishna's lay disciples". Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri is a "Monastic Disciple" of Sri Ramakrishna and the founder of the oldest womens convent in the direct lineage of Sri Ramakrishna, established in 1895, known as the Sri Saradeshwari Ashram in Kolkatta, India.
Please read a review from Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri Devi (Paperback) A Monastic Disciple of Sri Ramakrishna.
Sri Ramakrishna, the prophet of Dakshineswar, was born in 1836. To him, love of God and realization of the Divine was found manifesting in his life partner Sri Sarada Devi, who he worshipped as the Holy Mother. While Gauri Ma was living with Sri Ramakrishna and Holy Mother at Dakshineswar, Sri Ramakrishna gave Gauri Ma the ocher robes of a Sannyasini (nun), and made arrangements for the accompanying rituals of sannyas. Sri Ramakrishna himself offered a bilva leaf into the homa fire. Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri Devi was the only woman monastic disciple, that was given her formal vows during Sri Ramakrishna's life time. In 1895 commissioned by Sri Ramakrishna, Sannyasini Gauri Mata Puri Devi founded the oldest Womens Math (convent), Sri Saradeshwari Ashram, in Kolkatta, India. In 1897 Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission and in 1901, the Ramakrishna Math. In 1954, Trustees of the Ramakrishna Math funded and started the second womens math (convent), Sarada Math. Sri Ramakrishna was a mighty spring, his disciples so many powerful streams carrying his universal message forward. Mothers Trust/Mothers Place, also known as Ramakrishna Sarada Ashram, Lakeshore Interfaith Institute, Ganges, MI., USA is an affiliated branch of Sri Saradeshwari Ashram where the nuns take their final vows of Sannyas from the "oldest" womens convent commissioned by Sri Ramakrishna. The Ramakrishna Monks and Ramakrishna/Sarada Nuns, work together as equals in their service in their mission.
