Earphones Award Winner (AudioFile Magazine)

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing. Fewer and fewer couples are getting married, and divorce rates keep climbing as adultery and flagging libido drag down even seemingly solid marriages.

How can reality be reconciled with the accepted narrative? It can't be, according to renegade thinkers Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jetha. While debunking almost everything we "know" about sex, they offer a bold alternative explanation in this provocative and brilliant book.

Ryan and Jetha's central contention is that human beings evolved in egalitarian groups that shared food, child care, and, often, sexual partners. Weaving together convergent, frequently overlooked evidence from anthropology, archaeology, primatology, anatomy, and psychosexuality, the authors show how far from human nature monogamy really is. Human beings everywhere and in every era have confronted the same familiar, intimate situations in surprisingly different ways. The authors expose the ancient roots of human sexuality while pointing toward a more optimistic future illuminated by our innate capacities for love, cooperation, and generosity.

BONUS AUDIO Includes a Preface written and read by author Christopher Ryan.

"While the book presented some interesting scientific and historical research and factoids, it felt incomplete and slanted by challenging others rather than presenting the theory in an objective way. In proving that humans are biologically non-monogamous, it seemed more geared towards the male species and how they are wired with some smattering of information about women.

Esther Perel has touched upon the gender differences while noting that statistically men and women are as likely to cheat. The authors reference her in some aspects but as with the rest of the book, it seems to cherry pick rather than be more thorough in presenting their findings.

While the authors added a note to address why they provided an anecdote of Phil only, it seemed lazy to do so by not looking for some anecdotes or analysis of women's sex drives and motivations, even if complicated, and breaking down such complexities to also note whether women are as biologically wired to be non-monogamous as well."

Sex at Dawn How We Mate Why We Stray and What It Means for Modern Relationships Audible Audio Edition Christopher Ryan Cacilda Jetha Allyson Johnson Jonathan Davis Christopher Ryan Preface Audible Studios Books Reviews

  • A very interesting read! I wasn't sure what to expect after hearing about this book on the radio, but something told me I would enjoy it - and I definitely did. The first two thirds of the book focused primarily on history, past studies and how people felt about sex (or sexuality) and mating. The last third pulled all this information together and compared it to how we feel today, in our recent past, and how we may feel about it in the future. In my opinion the author never pushed his own agenda or feelings about how one should feel about sex, but instead presented different interpretations and views to help the reader do their own thinking. Once I finished the book I didn't feel like I was just told what to think, but simply had a lot more to think about.
  • While the book presented some interesting scientific and historical research and factoids, it felt incomplete and slanted by challenging others rather than presenting the theory in an objective way.

While the authors added a note to address why they provided an anecdote of Phil only, it seemed lazy to do so by not looking for some anecdotes or analysis of women's sex drives and motivations, even if complicated, and breaking down such complexities to also note whether women are as biologically wired to be non-monogamous as well.
  • Without denying the seriousness of the authors's intent, "Sex at Dawn" is one of the most entertaining books I've read in awhile. The authors, Cacilda Jetha, a medical doctor, and Christopher Ryan, a psychologist, argue that human beings are not inherently monogamous and that our collective civilizational effort to shoehorn people into life-long pair-bonds goes against our biological heritage and has led to much unnecessary misery. They stake this claim on a considerable amount of reading into recent anthropological, primatological and genetic research; specifically, they say that, as humans share roughly 99% of their DNA with chimps and bonobos, and as neither of those species practices monogamy (and in fact no primate, except the gibbon, does), our own genetic inheritance tends towards polyamory. In fact, they trot out examples from such indigenous cultures as the Mosuo in China to argue that pre-historic humans were most likely not monogamous widespread promiscuity promoted bonding among members of extended hunter-gatherer clans, reduced inter-group tension, and promoted sperm competition as females had sex with multiple male partners and rival sperm competed for the right to fertilization.

It's not hard to understand why "Sex at Dawn" has been embraced by sexologists while primatologists and anthropologists have been noticeably cooler in their reception. The book is like a bomb thrown not only against the very notion of monogamy but also against the standard narrative in anthropology that pair-bonding is universal in human societies because women trade sexual access for food and protection. The authors make little effort to conceal their impatience and irritation with this 'standard narrative' and, indeed, much of "Sex at Dawn" reads as though it were written by an exasperated zealot (or over-ambitious grad student) who can't fathom why everyone else remains so in the dark. At the very least, it's not boring.

But the book should probably be taken with more than a few grains of salt. First of all, "Sex at Dawn" rehashes an already well-worn Enlightenment-era belief in the uninhibited 'noble savage,' uncorrupted by the restraints of civilization. Rousseau was, of course, a proponent of this and Diderot's "Supplement to the Voyages of Bougainville" pretty much encapsulates Ryan and Jetha, albeit with more wit. As others have pointed out, there are instances of monogamous indigenous peoples too that the authors don't really consider. Also, they don't really respond to one of their central theses if the adoption of agriculture was such a disaster (sexually and in terms of quality of life) for human beings, why did they persist with it? If agricultural village settlements forced human beings into a monogamous corset, why then did they persist with it for 6,000 years before the advent of the first civilizations?

Finally, Ryan and Jetha stake much of their argument on asserting that 99% of human being's DNA overlap with that of bonobos, the most sexually promiscuous primates. Yet, we share the same percentage (99%) with chimps who are more territorial, aggressive, and somewhat less promiscuous than bonobos. Essentially, by privileging bonobos Ryan and Jetha over-correct previous writers's (like Jared Diamond) tendency to focus on our chimp heritage we really need a book that tries to relate both our chimp and bonobo genetic backgrounds together.

Still, for a book so steeped in academic research, it's a blast to read, except when the authors start to consider the implications of their own argument. Having spent 300 pages explaining how monogamy is so unnatural and sexual exclusivity is probably the main cause of marital failure (in their view), they then shy away from any prescriptive advice. They don't quite want to push marriage over a cliff and advocate polyamory (for males, anyway; they're even more reticent interestingly enough on the implications of their argument for female behavior) but the logic of the book tends in that direction. But, as Freud argued, we are stuck with civilization and its neuroses whether we like them or not. Thus, they can't quite advocate free love (not as long as we have private property, anyway) but they insist that marriage is a botch too. For all its strident confidence in our biologically-driven amorality, "Sex at Dawn" ends by waffling all over the place.

I did love reading it, however, even when I recognized that the authors were pushing their case too far. At the very least, it gets you thinking about why so many marriages and pairings fail, why cheating is so rampant, and whether there is indeed an evolutionary legacy that is inimical to our social arrangements (rather than just instances of individual moral failure).
  • Wow. I love this book. It had the power to change my mind about our shared past, social and sexual beliefs and present attempts to form a more realistic and compassionate code of ethics. Carefully researched and thoughtfully and humorously presented, I'm recommending it to everyone who is open to reading it
  • While a relatively easy read and presenting some interesting and new (to me) information, I didn't really see a central idea here other than people like sex and, as a western society, we're doing it wrong.

Okay, point taken. So, what's the right way?
  • Honestly, everyone should read this book. It could save your relationship with your partner and with yourself.
Even if you can't wrap your head around humans evolving from animals, taking into account animal behavior when considering how we as humans have changed over the years is eye opening.
The final chapters shed light on human sexual behavior in ways I never considered. It has helped me understand men better and I'm sure will help my marriage and that of my sons.
I'm grateful for finding this book and reading it all the way through. It's unlike any book I've ever read.
  • To the Authors Thank you for researching, compiling, and writing this book.

To those thinking of reading it Do it. The book is dense. It is full of citations, quotes from studies, and anthropological research, though quite fun once you get into the rhythm and style of it. What's truly awesome is what the research and data reveal about human sexuality. There's more to us than the stories told in Disney movies, religious texts, and fairy tales (and far more importantly to me, it successfully challenges the standard model of sexual human behavior held up by most scientists). I'd read a chapter a night, or several on a flight, and then spend the next day sporadically realizing why something in a past relationship happened, or why I have always felt a certain way about myself or the wonderful women in my life. The book has made me grateful, more mature, and more comfortable in my own skin and emotions.

    Worth it.

charity business.

Bright Futures Guidelines Pocket Guide 9781610020824 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews

  • This is the best pocket reference available for anyone who sees pediatric patients-from prenatal out to 21 years of age.
The booklet is set up with all developmental expectations for each well-child visit, examination guidelines and family, social, safety and nutritional points for each age.
The appendix gives tooth charts for primary and permanent teeth, Tanner Stages for boys and girls, and Developmental Milestones for each age.
  • Great pocket edition of an essential pediatric reference book. It has excellent reference tables and everything you need to know and ask parents/children organized by age, including vaccination schedules. A must have for practitioners.
  • Ok supplement, I would probably buy the full version rather than the pocket guide but that is just my opinion and depends on what you are needing it for. If you are in a peds class, definitely buy the full version! Great information!
  • Good for FNP clinical and small enough to fit in a lab coat.
  • I am a Family Nurse Practitioner student and this is a must have. I used it for homework and in the clinic when I’m seeing patients
  • This was great for NP clinicals to review before during and after peds rotation. Easy to read and small enough to stash in a pocket. Anticipatory teaching points are a lifesaver!
  • Great simple reference to use in pediatric clinical as a nurse practitioner. Gives a nice review of what to cover for well exams and anticipatory guidance.
  • Liked that it came shrink wrapped so no damage. Good for medical students that want a pocket book for knowing what milestones, anticipatory guidance, etc. should be observed & discussed at well child visits.

Jean-Christophe Buisson,
Le Figaro Magazine

Your dreams can provide inner guidance filled with life-saving information. Since ancient Egypt and Greece, people have relied on the art of dreaming to diagnose illness and get answers to personal life challenges. Now, dreams are making a grand reappearance in the medical arena as recent scientific research and medical pathology reports validate the diagnostic abilities of precognitive dreams. Are we stepping back into the future as modern medical tests show dreams can be early warning signs of cancer and other diseases?

Showcasing the important role of dreams and their power to detect and heal illness, Dr. Larry Burk and Kathleen O'Keefe-Kanavos share amazing research and true stories of physical and emotional healings triggered by dreams. The authors explore medical studies and ongoing research on the diagnostic power of precognitive dreams, including Dr. Burk's own research on dreams that come true and can be medically validated. They share detailed stories - all confirmed by pathology reports - from subjects in medical research projects whose dreams diagnosed illness and helped heal their lives, including Kathleen's own story as a three-time breast cancer survivor whose dreams diagnosed her cancer even when it was missed by her doctors.

Alongside these stories of survival and faith, the authors also include an introduction to dream journaling and interpretation, allowing the listener to develop trust in their dreams as a spiritual source of healing and inner guidance.

Dreams That Can Save Your Life Early Warning Signs of Cancer and Other Diseases Audible Audio Edition Larry Burk MD CEHP Kathleen O'KeefeKanavos Bernie Siegel MD foreword Jay Cruz Inner Traditions Audio Books Reviews

  • I've always been dreaming a lot my whole life, and I always wondered what my sometimes very bloody dreams were trying to tell me, but I never thought I'd read a whole book about dreams. Well, I thought wrong. This book is written so well it just happened that I read it from the first page to the last. Chapters are interesting, informative, eye opening, short, and you never get bored to read the next and the next and the next. I only reached page 93 of "Dreams That Can Save Your Life" and already decided to pick up my long forgotten dream journal, and start writing down my dreams again. Wonderful book for everyone who loves to read for pleasure, for fun, and education.
  • ‘Dreams That Can Save Your Life’ is a profound book of wisdom aligned with medical research. Larry Burk, MD, CEHP, and Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanvaos carry you on a journey as to how dreams save many lives. This is a book filled with power-packed testimonies of individuals who were facing the battle of breast cancer and other diseases before they were diagnosed. It deeply touches on the emotional journey of a tug-of-war between, “Am I only dreaming or are my dreams advising me to seek medical attention?” The brave women mentioned in this book stood firm in what they believed their dreams were revealing, although some medical professionals did not. The strong intensity of warning signs motived them to push further into their concerns. Leading towards a self-advocating victory of receiving proper health care and strength not many of them felt they had. Not only does this book speak of healing but also breaks down dream interpretation and their wide variety of forms. Clarifying how each dream dimension affects our daily lives and wellbeing. You’ll be amazed at the research, time, and effort Dr. Larry Burk and Kathleen O’Keefe-Kanvaos put into this extraordinary book. Rather you’re a dreamer or not this book will lead you to provoke a better understanding of your dreams in your waking life and take action towards what your dream world’s disclosing. From symbols to loved ones ‘Dreams That Can Save Your Life’ showcases an earnest significance to the expression, “Dreams can come true.” Highly recommended!
  • Wow! Absolutely fascinating! Highly recommend this book!
  • Dreams are important, dreams are elusive, paradoxical, hard hitting and direct, difficult to understand, powerful, life changing, mostly forgotten unopened letters, open to discovery. What more could we say? This new book is very important, discussing something that is otherwise elusive, paradoxical....
Here's a paradox A study at Harvard University few years back asked students to attempt to get a dream of guidance on a topic of their choice. Both the dreamers themselves, as well as a panel of judges, evaluated the resulting dream as to how well it spoke to the targeted topic. The results indicated that a significant number of students were able to recall a dream that pertained to the targeted question. Of the various topics for dreaming, it turned out that health questions had the greatest chance of being responded to in a dream. That's one finding.
Here's something else Carl Jung, the eminent psychiatrist who took a creative path through the study of dreaming, totally believed in the ability of dreams to speak to relevant topics, a person's health--physical and psychological--were primary concerns of dreams. Yet he found that interpreting dreams related to the body was the most challenging of all dream interpretation tasks. Might it be because we use our past experiences to interpret dreams and it is possible that the body operates in a manner different than the ways we've learned? Dunno. But it is something to think about as you consider this new book on dreams, which perhaps you need to study.
Dreams that Can Save Your Life is a book that comes from research with dreamers. It asks whether dreams can be counted on to give advance warning of developing illness and how to notice and understand such warnings. It studies the lives of several women who had dreams that diagnosed their cancer. It establishes, once again, that dreams can foretell illness long before it can be diagnosed with medical procedures. The work that went into this book serves to remind us of the power of dreams and it shows that it is indeed capable of making progress on what is quite a challenge of detective work, symbolic thought, refined consciousness and medical knowledge.
I think it is important to know the origins of this book. It reveals the very large gap between what actually happens in the world, amazing stuff, and what we understand, or think we understand, about how the world works. Our theories and methodologies lag behind the realities. Dr. Burk began his study because of hearing about so many cases in which women who had been treated for breast cancer had had warning dreams about their disease. Here was the after the fact evidence of the power of dreams, but also very sad evidence about the difficulty of having such information guide medical practice. The women dreamers in this book were pioneers, often lonely pioneers as their doctors could not integrate the dream information into the treatment. A large part of the book is a collection of these women's stories.
When the dreams of women correctly diagnose cancer, what are the defining characteristics of this dream experience? It is an important question, as sometimes dreams of illness prove to be more symbolic than literal, so how do we tell the difference? One of the major contributions of this book is its analysis of these stories to discover what are the telling patterns. Here was their conclusion
In 94% of the stories, the woman awoke with a strong sense of conviction that the dream was telling the truth.
In 83% of the cases, the dreams were more intense, vivid, realistic.
In 72% of the cases, there was a sense of menace, dread or threat.
In 44% of the cases, there was an instance of an actual medical term used or presented, such as "cancer," or "tumor."
In 38% of the cases, there was a sense of being in physical contact with the breast
Perhaps the reader can use these tell-tale signs to help discriminate. I suggest, however, that instead of relying on these broad statistics (which is more of a yang approach than yin), it would be better to read the women's stories, which make up the bulk of the book. These ladies demonstrate clearly the use of their own intuitive abilities and connections with self, to guide the process. A reader is more likely to get an intuitive "ah ha!" from these stories, a confirmation or encouragement to engage one's own intuitive connection, to explore one's own health situation.
These stories, plus the non-contestable fact that dreams can provide an advance diagnosis, is the important news. The authors conclude that good, proficient, well-informed medical practice would now dictate that women keep a dream journal and present the dreams along with laboratory tests. A dream diary should be a part of a medical record--that's big news! Shall we repeat it?
Years ago, my research into dreams arose from the Asklepian tradition. The Greek doctor Hippocrates gave credit to the god Asklepios and his dream temples, as providing most of the medical treatment knowledge of his day. In a mythical past, folks would receive a dream inviting them to seek a healing from their disease at one of the Asklepian temples. The patient would invariably experience what we might call a visionary dreams, what Julian Jaynes called a "bicameral dream," in which the dream occurs in the bed or bedroom of the dreamer, like a vision. We wouldn't know about these dream healings had not there been a requirement that the healed patient had to create a testimony concerning the healing. Incised stone tablets from way back when before written records, are a testament to these healings.
A pilot project was conducted at ARE Clinic in Phoenix many years ago, working with allergies. How might a person go about incubating a dream that would alleviate their allergic reaction? See "Dream Therapy for Sinusitus," by James Kwako, M.D., Sundance The Community Dream Journal, Summer, 1978, Vol. 2(2), 248-251.
Solid medical research requires a lot of work, committee oversight, etc., which Dr. Larry Burk can be congratulated on for having passed all these hurtles. The same might be applied one day to healing in dreams.
Another area touched upon in the book has to do with somebody dreaming about someone else's illness. Dr. Burk tells a couple of his own stories to demonstrate that it is indeed possible. The interpersonal dynamics that would stimulate such dreaming remains to be explored. In the Dream Helper ESP Circles, developed and researched within the Edgar Cayce community, we have the opportunity to explore through comparative study just how does one person's health appear in other people's dreams. It is possible that a group of dreamers might provide a diagnostic path for discerning health problems in others.
There's so much to explore! Thanks to the hard work, and the personal sharing, that went into Dreams that Can Save Your Life, that we may hope to see a lot more progress as research advances.

The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists Coping with the OneWay Relationship in Work Love and Family Eleanor D Payson LMSW 8601400372272 Books Reviews

  • This book changed my life. Honestly. Making the decision to leave my narcissistic husband after twenty-two years was not an easy one. We had committed to staying friends and keeping family first but when he quickly moved on to someone much much younger and essentially abandon me and our daughters I felt rage and regret. Even in the face of being a graduate student in Clinical Psychology I simply could not accept what my family was going through. I felt stuck in my pain and anger and was so focused on what he was doing that I forgot why I left. After listening to this book I realized every single thing I had been feeling and seeing in my marriage was indeed accurate and valid. I feel a renewed sense of self and feel so motivated to resolve my childhood issues and empower myself to move ahead with my own life after dissapperaing into his for decades.

This is the most powerfully healing book I have read in a very long time. Thank you so much Eleanor for writing this book. It has changed me as a woman and mother. Thank you.
  • Eleanor Payson's knowledge on Narcissistic Personality Disorder was paramount to me. I attract Narcissists like fly paper and I now realize why. I am the quintessential "codependent care giver". My best friend is a Narcissist bordering on the malignant. I finally realized that she was literally taking over my life while draining my energy, and practically my bank account as well. I had to put a stop to it. This book helped me to understand how Narcissists operate and how to protect myself from their toxic talons. It really helped me to see aspects of myself and how I was always trying to help, fix, and placate someone that cannot be helped. This book has been extremely valuable in my quest to try and figure out the imbalance and or lopsided friendship I was all tangled up in. I highly recommend this book. I have passed it on to several friends and there is not a single page that doesn't have paragraphs underlined. Thank you Cyndi for recommending this book to me.
  • I really enjoyed this book on such a difficult subject. There is no anger in the writing, if you know what I mean. Often, authors on such subjects are writing their own emotions into the page (something Virginia Wolff said not to do), and I have to put them down because I'm 'catching' their emotions, especially the anger. But Eleanor Payson writes about narcissism in such an interesting and easy to digest way that I could also see myself in there without all the judgement that would have gone with such an insight in the past. I'm aware that co-dependent people can also be mildly to highly narcissistic, and then we attract the narcissists and try to change them. Such funny creatures - humans... Anyway, it's a lovely book, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for answers on the difficult people in their lives.
  • The first half of this book is an excellent description of NPD and NPD behaviours. The Wizard of Oz theme is very hokey but OK - you are trying to reach really damaged and bewildered people who are looking for something a bit comforting and familiar, and she uses the anaology well.

The second half of the book in which each kind of possible relationship with a narcissist is explored (parent, child, partner etc etc) gets very tiresome because it is all "your therapist this, your therapist that" then "your joint therapist this, your joint therapist that". If people want therapy their therapist will advise on what is appropriate or not. So it seems like a bit of an ad for the therapy industry.

The final chapter is however quite a gem. It points out that the power to recover from a narcissitic relationship is within you and always was - much like dorothy clicks her shoes and goes home.
  • I’ve read a bunch of books on narcissism and codependence, but this one stands out for its practical value. It reveals how narcissists gain and maintain control. And, it provides techniques to slip the knot. Finally, it explores how to counter narcissists in many different contexts, from love, to friendship, work, politics, etc. Very insightful and helpful.
  • This book is good for basic information, and learning about NPD.
When it was first released in 2002 it was ground breaking information.
It's a great starter book. However, like other reviewers I really wish that
there were sections about detaching, defusing, and "going low to no contact".
I have to agree with some of others, some situations just can't be salvaged,
no matter how much energy and effort you put into them, and often it's not
safe (or sane) to remain in the realm of The Narcissist and you've
got to leave A.S.A.P. to save yourself!
  • I'm not a big writer so i'll make this brief and to the point.

I've read several books on personality disorders since breaking up with my x girlfriend. While I seriously think she had Narcissistic Personality Disorder NPD I didn't see some of the characteristics that other books mentioned. This book covers OVERT and COVERT Narcissism and really makes sense as to those Narcissists in high places vs. those who are more run of the mill next door I'm too good for you, know it all, empathy lacking types.
Further, it gets into what attracts NPD's like bees to honey - codependency!
If you are trying to figure out what in the world is so screwed up in your life with a significant other, be it a lover, parent, child, sibling, co-worker or friend and you can't quite put your finger on it there's an excellent chance this book will answer your questions and start you on the right path to deal with that person or get them out of your life.

The Emotion Code How to Release Your Trapped Emotions for Abundant Health Love and Happiness Updated and Expanded Edition Dr Bradley Nelson Tony Robbins 9781250214508 Books Reviews

  • Wow, wow, wow, what an awesome book. First off, Dr. Bradley Nelson, through this book, introduced me to the wonderful world of muscle testing. At first I thought it couldn't possibly work, but the more I did it, I started to see there's really something to it! I felt like a whole new magical world was opened up to me. I could ask myself (or the universe?) anything and get answers. I've been using muscle testing to find out what supplements are best for my body, what foods are best, whether or not I should continue with the physical therapy I'd been going to with no success (and the answer was "no"), the causes of my insomnia, and so on. The book is worth it just for this bit of wisdom alone!

But the book is REALLY about how most of us have trapped emotions that cause all kinds of emotional and physical ills and how we can release them with a simple technique using muscle testing and an ordinary magnet - even a refrigerator magnet will work. Dr. Nelson provides example upon example of how he's successfully used muscle testing in his chiropractic office. Reading about those examples were very helpful to (a) get my skeptical mind to start thinking this technique might actually work, and (b) give me ideas of all the kinds of experiences that can lead to a trapped emotion and all the various physical and mental ailments that can result from a trapped emotion.

So now I've finished the book, and over the past few weeks have experimented with releasing my own trapped emotions. I've got to say, I think this really works! First I released a couple emotions and found out when and how (meaning what was the situation) they were trapped. Fascinating! Then I worked on the heart wall and released 7 emotions that were trapped there. According to muscle testing, my heart wall is gone. Now every few days I'll work on releasing another emotion or two, and I plan to do this until my body says there are no more trapped emotions.

To give a little background, I have a history of problems with depression and anxiety. I was on medication for 20 years, and over the past few years have weaned myself off all pharmaceuticals (prescription and over-the-counter) and have totally revamped my diet, eating no wheat, dairy, sugar, alcohol, soy, yeast or processed food and only eating organic vegetables, fruit, some meat, nuts, seeds and filtered water with no fluoride nor chlorine. I've lost 50 pounds, which is awesome, but the depression has hung in there and no supplements, positive affirmations or alternative therapies seemed to work. Then comes this book. After releasing several emotions I was feeling noticeably better! Now I'm not out of the woods yet, but then again my body tells me I still have trapped emotions to release. I'm the most optimistic than I've been in a long, long time. I can't wait to try the technique on some friends to see if it will help them as well. Again, I feel a whole new world has just opened up for me. This book is such a gift!
  • Muscle testing has been a regular part of my family's life nearly 10yrs. It has assisted me in my journey to heal from ptsd/agoraphobia & chronic illness. I was originally taught EFT/tapping technique, visualizations, & phrase based affirmations to access energetic/emotional change. There was very little in this book that I did not already understand. I breezed through it in a day. That being said, it has been incredibly helpful!

What I have been struggling with the last few years was how to get past the murky/muddy aspects of asking 100 questions to get 1 answer. Tapping is helpful but I was not getting the results I was looking for. It was also hard for my husband to feel connected to that process. He also does not benefit as much from visualizations (for various personal reasons).

Whether you are new to this work or been doing it for many years, we all should go back to the basics from time to time. Nelson gives you a can't fail guide to getting the answers you want from your body, then giving you the exact process to wipe it clear away!

Despite 10yrs of work, ive continued to struggle with an eating disorder. 1 session using Nelsons method and I discovered that my disorder wasnt mine at all - but the result of trapped emotions taken on from a relative when I was young. I cleared the emotions associated with that disorder and ive been in control of my body & food ever since. If you have ever had a compulsion - you'll know it triggers anxiety, emotional upheaval, & makes you feel like an addict. Now, I can respect myself, control any natural cravings and feel confident in MY choices.

I haven't jumped on a band wagon so fast in my life! Im now addicted to clearing old negative emotions! Lol I clear everything around me from my dogs, cats, husband, horses. I have a horse that was abused in her early years and suffers major anxiety and panic. This method is already showing results - her demeanor is more steady, her back problems are relaxing, her gait is opening up.

This method is reminding me of all the reasons I fell in love with energy work to begin with. Its the spark I needed to keep going and continue to help myself & life around me.
  • I watched the movie "e-motion" and was really impressed with Dr Nelson so bought this book. Honestly, I was expecting absolutely nothing but this book has helped my health tremendously. Back in 1994 after a year of off the charts physical and emotional stress, my immune system broke down and I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. I went from working out pretty hard 5-6 days a week to not being able to work out at all. Over time it got a bit better but I still couldn't push myself or I'd get sick, every time. After using this book (and doing the exercises on my own, no practitioner or assistance), my body got stronger and now I'm working out almost every day and feeling great. It's amazing! I'm so grateful for the wisdom contained in this book. I highly recommend it.
  • Coming from a household of Oncologists, I was very skeptical when I picked up this book. In fact, I was truly just looking for another self development book. There were three things that were pressing me. My mother passing away from pancreatic cancer and having limiting beliefs before she passed away bothered me. Also, why people would join businesses and why they would sabatoge themselves left me curious. Lastly, why my parents divorced after thirty years made me realize that relationships are more complex and what would make this type of result happen? All of these questions were resolved by the study of imbalances and an issue called the "heart wall." This book changed our life and assisted many clients of mine all over the world. This is truly the future of medicine.
